Gerbemühle an ideal locations for perfect nights and rewarding days. A building complex whose character has been stylistically and aesthetically blended, merging tradition and innovation to form an entity.

Traditional values combined with modern design. Directly on the banks of the River Main, surrounded by scenic beauty and in the immediate vicinity of the impressive Frankfurt skyline.

The history of the Gerbemühle is long and eventful. In the 14th century, a feudal estate was built on the picturesque spot on the left bank of the River Main. This was the start of a long and momentous story that has made the Gerbemühle one of the most historically important spots in Frankfurt. The flour mill was built in the 16th century. In the 17th century, the building was used as a tannery. These two functions gave the original feudal estate the Name „Gerbemühle“ (tannery mill) which it still retains today. But the building first aquired its historic importance through the Frankfurt banker, Johann Jakob von Willemer, who was a friend of Goethe, first invited Goethe to visit him in 1814 and during this visit Goethe made the acquaintance of Marianne, Willemer's foster daughter. A close relationship developed between the two of them and this inspired Goethe to further, longer stays in the Gerbemühle. In the year 1815 he spent almost a month there and although celbrated his 66th birthday here. Both Marianna and the beautiful countryside where the inspiration for his poem „Ginkgo biloba“ that he decorated with ginkgo leaves and sent to Marianna – who had since married her foster father Jakob von Willemer. Three songs from Goethe's work „West-östlicher Divan“ were written by Marianne and her included in his work by the poet, with no mention of their origin.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Gerbemühle was restored by the city of Frankfurt and used as a country inn. Unfortunately, the secluded hostelry was not spared the destruction of the Second World War. The Gerbemühle was reduced to its foundations and not rebuilt until the 1970's. In 2001, Werner Kindermann bought the run-down Gerbemühle. This marked the onset of a long series of rebuilding and estension work, thge results of which can be admired today. The Gerbemühle is back, restaured to its former beauty and more. The small, stylish Hotel has turned the former summer residence once more into a place to linger in.

The newly created Hotel Gerbemühle is a logical extension of the concept devised by tenants Micky Rosen and Alex Urseanu that envisages service on a individual and personal basis in place of large-scale servicing.

The room have all those facilities that the discerning guests expect of a modern hotel. Flat-Screen TV with satellite and cable reception, complimentary internet access, air conditioning, free mini-bar, safe, telephone with voicemail and hairdryer are standard.

The 5 suites are all unique and discreetly reflect their architectural affinity with the preserved historical elements. The Gerbemühle Hotel excels with a design that embodies exclusivity and innovation.
