Wartburg Hotel

Far from the restlessness and constrictions of today’s city life, surrounded by forest as far as the eye can see and close to the clouds: This historical site still is as “hoch und froh” (high and merry) as Goethe once experienced it. It is the special feat of this house, to have created out of this unmistakable motif of landscape and architecture, a composition that speaks to all the senses.

The Wartburg – at the crest of a two hundred meter high rock above the town of Eisenach – became a well-fortified stronghold in the middle-ages, when intrigues were manifold, turned into a magnificent residence and finally into a hostel, – a place of contemplation and safety. The storms and silences of centuries past, history and stories, imbued these old, weathered walls with an aura that is still palpable today.

The Wartburg has retained its friendly hospitality, since the times of the first pilgrims that knocked on its doors. Welcome, service and a good night’s lodging have always been - and still are - a well-kept tradition at the Hotel auf der Wartburg.

The Wartburg itself as UNESCO world-heritage site already offers many reasons for a cultural program. Eisenach, though, came to international fame not only because of the Wartburg but also because of Martin Luther’s translation of the New Testament and as the city of birth of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Fifty-three individual rooms, designed with imagination will enchant and “capture“ you and make you want to stay. This atmosphere, formed over centuries, has been invaded by contemporary comforts – not ostensibly but perfect, as is to be expected of the castles’ current moving spirits.

To watch the sun go down with a glass of vintage wine or to spend a comfortable hour in front of the open fire place will be the perfect end to your day at the Wartburg. Finally content, you will snuggle into our – very different – hotel bed, to be perhaps woken by a cuckoo’s call in the morning. Let your soul come to rest while you relax for a long week-end or during a holiday in the middle of the glorious Thuringian landscape.

Our rooms, equipped with TV, radio, telephone, safe, mini bar and wireless internet access, offer all the comfort today’s traveller might ever need.
